May Lo Down

Welcome to the May Lo Down!

So, truthfully, I haven’t been watching or reading much of anything lately. April, and now the beginning of May, has flown by in a blur thanks to various freelance projects, Around the Table (which I’ll be sharing more about in a bit!), and events and celebrations filling the weekends. I’ll work on being more interesting for next month. 🙂

What I’m reading:

Cookbook: Half Baked Harvest Cookbook: Recipes from My Barn in the Mountains by Tieghan Gerard

I’ve been following Half Baked Harvest for a couple of years now, and I’m not joking, Tieghan is a freaking magician when it comes to food styling and photography.

Now, I know that’s not why most people purchase cookbooks, just some of us… But hear me out, Tieghan creates flavorful, no-fuss recipes that are approachable, exciting, and new, yet familiar.

G’s sister and her family got me this book for my birthday and I seriously can’t stop flipping through it. (I just got lost in it for 20 minutes after writing this.)

 
What I’m listening to:

Podcast: Armchair Expert From Dax Shepard

At first glance the length of each episode was intimidating, but after listening to a few, I found myself begging for more. Dax Shepard is vulgar, vulnerable, brash, funny, and conversational in his new podcast.

Shepard interviews friends and fellow actors and actresses, chats about the ups and downs, the struggles, and growing pains of life. I listen to this podcast when developing recipes, photographing, driving, and running. It’s interesting, sad, funny, and overall entertaining.

He just dropped a new album—YES! If you haven’t started listening to him, RIGHT NOW is a great time. His newest album is titled Good Thing and I also (highly) recommend checking out his album Coming Home.
 

What I’m lovin’ in my kitchen:

Manual Citrus Juicer, stay with me here. At home I’ve been using a reamer for lord knows how long, but at work I use a manual juicer and let me tell you, it’s so much easier and efficient to use.We were chatting about this a few days ago in the test kitchen. Don’t let OXO or some other kitchen company fool you—you don’t need separate sizes for limes, lemons, and oranges. Such a crock I tell ya. Opt for the biggest size, the orange, and use it for all citrus, although you might have trouble with grapefruit. 😉

What I am snacking on:

It may sound a bit weird, but I’ve been snacking on dates filled with almond butter, peanut butter or tahini. They’re seriously energy bombs that taste like candy.
